(Re-posted from an earlier blog post due to the warm weather!)
The other day, I did a quick google search asking which cities were ranked the best for bike riding & trail systems and quickly found out Minneapolis always ranked in the top five and many times was NUMBER 1!
Since I have already educated you on the delights of the Luce Line Trail, it seems only natural to follow that up with the many perks of the Dakota Rail Trail! This is a great “beginner” trail in that it is paved and mostly flat except for a few bridges….this also makes it one of the better trails in the area for roller-blading in addition to hiking, biking, etc. It runs from downtown Wayzata (which is where I generally grab a quick smoothie) to St. Boni, all the while weaving you through some of the most beautiful areas around Lake Minnetonka (Orono, Minnetonka Beach, Noremburg Park, Spring Park, Mound, & Minnetrista). Not far off the route are wonderful resting points like Noerenberg Gardens & Gale Woods Farm/recreation area. This route is @13.5 miles but if you are feeling up to it, the trail has been expanded as far West as Mayer with plans to reach New Germany sometime this year!
These trails are beautiful, free and easy to access….what are you waiting for!?
